I wrote Fire In The City  as a balance to my fictional character Edie Benson’s experiences in London during the Second World War  (Blitz)

Over the years, so many people have been moved by the bombing of Coventry and its cathedral, it seemed an obvious thing to see those events through the eyes of a cathedral chorister.  Hello Adam Blenkiron and his family!

Getting a book properly published is difficult. There may be many things which prevent it. The publisher needs to know that the money spent on advertising and staff costs will come back to them – hopefully many times over.  They’ll also hope the author is young and clever enough to go on writing, and bringing them follow-up ‘hits’.  And sometimes the content of a possible book can make publication awkward or controversial.  So it is with Fire In The City, written with primary age children in mind, but which (along with the history) is about faith, doubt and cathedral music. Religion isn’t yet a popular subject for children’s and teenage fiction.

So this is a book which has remained unpublished. I’m very happy you can read or download it here for free.
